Career History
Michael Murphy is President of the Property & Casualty Group at Arch Insurance Group. In this role, he is responsible for one of the two main underwriting groups in the company—the group includes the following underwriting units: Casualty, Construction, Design & Environmental, Alternative Markets, Traditional P&C Programs, E & S Property, Global Property, Offshore Energy, Builders’ Risk, National Accounts, High Excess Workers’ Comp, Travel & Accident, Aviation and Lenders.
Previously at Arch, Mr. Murphy was Executive Vice President and Chief Underwriting Officer. He joined Arch in 2002 and brings to Arch extensive managerial experience. He previously spent eight years at Zurich with responsibilities associated with the following positions: Executive Vice President and Chief Product Officer of Zurich Specialties, Director of Underwriting for North American Programs, President of both SPGI and SPGII holding companies for Zurich-owned MGA operations and Executive Vice President of the Customer Group, which included all the Professional Liability lines. Prior to Zurich, he held senior positions in Professional Liability underwriting and program management at both Marsh & McLennan and American International Group (AIG). Before the start of his insurance career, Mr. Murphy served as an attorney specializing in commercial litigation.
